This Is What Democracy Smells Like

More vacuous non-reporting and misrepresentation from the LA Times in today’s “Removal of Occupy L.A. camp may be good for public health” story. The Mayor, in keeping with his prototypical self contradictory rambling said at his closed door press conference this morning that public health workers toured the camp daily and found no violations just before he restated possible health risks as one of his flimsy justifications for evicting Occupants. That was the same press conference where LAPD Chief Charlie Beck thanked “journalists” in a shameless piece of propaganda theater that was decidedly disingenuous even for the LAPD.

Today’s Times story stated –“…workers cleaning the L.A. site have found pillows, mattresses and old foodstuffs. Some police chose to don bio-hazard suits Wednesday morning when approaching City Hall’s lawn”, which The Times reported smelled of “urine and old food.”

Because I camped at City Hall for the last month and a half and used all of the three the port-a-poty clusters regularly, about 30 in total, I can attest to the fact that they did smell like urine, but this is what democracy smells like. The camp neither smelled of urine or old food and was cleaned daily. Though it may be possible that the smell of urine and old food may have been mistaken for the stench of complacency drifting in from the LA Times building across the street.

Sadly the fine line between Fox news and the LA Times has been erased as they embed themselves in the incestuous propaganda factory at City Hall and Parker Center.  Had they taken an even passive interested in anything beyond the most superficial non coverage of the Second American Revolution, doing piece meal, lunch break research, they might not have missed the opportunity to cover the most important American political movement ever. Apparently the long walk down from the Times building to the camp a few hundred feet away was a journey to far.

The same inner sanctum VIP /  corporate affiliatedjournalist” cluster fuck from today’s press conference were some of the same hacks from last night’s decidedly theatrical arrests of 300 people at Occupy LA where the high drama photo op was to much to resist, the LAPD brought out  the bomb squad, arson unit and other specialized units with 1,400 cops marauding through the the streets terrorizing 2,000 peaceful citizens for expressing their First Amendment rights. The love fest tactic cops applied to occupant relations now formally over, the paramilitary policing pyrotechnics rivaled the spontaneous fireworks display that erupted from a building top just before they riot cops permeated the park. A Spielbergian epic lit by helicopter search lights and news crew spotlights, the only thing missing was movie star.

The movement continues with an action against Bank of America at foreclosure auctions this week. A post-raid rally and march starting at Pershing Square today at 4:00 will travel to City Hall where the General Assembly will take place at 7:30pm. http://occupylosangeles.org/
